Coastal Bangladesh has saline soil and salty humid winds, which corrode metal parts of tractors and combine harvesters. Without proper care, machines develop rust, frequent breakdowns and shorter lifespans.
After every field operation, clean the whole machine with fresh water to wash away salty mud and crop waste. Avoid high-pressure washing on electric components. Dry the equipment fully afterwards.
Lubricate bearings, chains and connecting rods regularly with anti-rust grease to form a protective oil film. Sand off early rust spots and reapply anti-rust paint. Check belts and hoses and replace aged parts in time.
Store machines in dry, ventilated sheds when idle. If indoors is unavailable, use waterproof tarpaulins. Lift tires off wet ground and maintain battery charge. Also service filters, engine oil and hydraulic fluid on schedule.
Proper anti-corrosion maintenance reduces breakdowns and part replacement costs. It keeps tractors and harvesters reliable during farming seasons and improves farmers’ returns.
